Phonics

Based on the old Letters and Sounds document but updated in line with the National Curriculum, the children follow a programme developed within school.

The programme consists of 6 phases. Children are taught phases 1, 2 and 3 whilst they are in our Foundation Stage. Phases 4 and 5 are taught to the children in Year 1 and phase 6 is taught whilst the children are in Year 2.

Children take part in a national Phonics Screening test at the end of Year 1 which tests the children on Phases 2 to 5.

Continuous and enhanced provision

Writing, reading and phonics areas are part of all FS2 and KS1 classrooms to help reinforce their phonics learning through play. Teachers enhance continuous provision with enhanced provision activities to help reinforce specific skills.
